Dry Cleaning Contamination
Columbus, OH: (Sep-24-07) The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) brought an environmental damage lawsuit against Dean and Colleen Soulliere, former owners of One Hour Martinizing, a Columbus dry cleaning business. The suit was filed over the cleanup of a groundwater contamination plume in the south-central portion of the city. The EPA filed a civil complaint in Omaha federal court seeking to recoup groundwater contamination cleanup costs under the provisions of the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act (Superfund Act) of 1980.
As part of a settlement reached, a consent decree agreed to by Dean and Colleen Soulliere and the US Environmental Protection Agency entered in US District Court in Omaha, requires the couple to make a one-time $100,000 payment by mid-November 2007. The couple did not admit any liability in agreeing to settle, but did so to avoid the risks and costs associated with litigation. [COLUMBUS TELEGRAM: DRY CLEANING CONTAMINATION]
