Inflated Horse Prices
San Diego, CA: (Sep-25-07) Jess Jackson, a Stonestreet farm owner, brought a lawsuit against Emmanuel de Seroux, his former bloodstock adviser, alleging that de Seroux and several other advisers received secret payments from sellers while advising Jackson to purchase horses at inflated prices. De Seroux, the president of Narvick International Inc., filed a countersuit claiming Jackson underpaid him for his 5% commissions.
As part of a settlement reached, Emmanuel de Seroux has agreed to pay Jess Jackson $3.5 million to settle the allegations. Jackson had previously settled with bloodstock agents Fernando Diaz-Valdez, Frederic Sauque, and Brad Martin and trainer Bruce Headley. The settlement also removes de Seroux as a defendant in another lawsuit still active in Kentucky federal court regarding Jackson's purchase of the 465-acre Buckram Oak Farm in Lexington for about $17.5 million in February 2005. Martin and Sauque are also defendants in that case. [THOROUGHBRED TIMES: INFLATED HORSE PRICES]
