Tuition Billing DIspute
Pittsburgh. PA: (Oct-01-07) Western Beaver County School District brought a lawsuit against the Midland Borough School District, over a tuition billing dispute. Western Beaver sued Midland in November 2006, alleging that it was owed about $260,000 for Midland students attending Western Beaver during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 school years. Midland did not have a high school and had been sending its students to East Liverpool, Ohio, under an exclusive agreement. In the lawsuit, lawyers for the Western Beaver district claimed that Midland was paying the tuition rate for charter school students, rather than the state standardized rate for tuition in a non-charter school.
As part of a settlement reached, the districts decided on $130,000, half of the figure in the lawsuit, to cover the two years referenced in the lawsuit. Midland had not yet paid any tuition for students in the 2006-07 school years, and included an additional $320,000 in the settlement to cover tuition for that year. The preliminary settlement of $450,000 is pending court approval. [POST GAZETTE: TUITION DISPUTE]
