Mentally Retarded Rape
Columbia, SC: (Oct-02-07) Brenda Bryant, a South Carolina woman, brought a lawsuit against Babcock Center, alleging that a man from the company raped her mentally retarded daughter, more than a decade ago. Bryant sued the Babcock Center claiming that her 21-year-old mentally retarded daughter was raped by at least one man after she left her daughter in a Babcock home in 1995. Bryant says she has gone public in her role as an advocate for people with mental retardation.
In a settlement reached, Bryant agreed to end the lawsuit for $250,000. The company's insurance provider settled the case based on financial reasons.
