Bus Race Accident

Orlando, FL: (Oct-09-07) The family of former Lake County Sheriff Chris Daniels brought a lawsuit against the owner of the Volusia racetrack where Daniels was killed in a charity bus racing accident. The suit stated that Daniels was killed on his 47th birthday, during the Battle of the Badges race to benefit Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches. A bus driven by Seminole Sheriff Don Eslinger collided with Daniels. The record states that Daniels was thrown out of the bus and was run over by his bus and the bus driven by Eslinger. Florida Highway Patrol investigators said three factors contributed his death, he was not wearing a seat belt, he had little to no racing experience, and he could not see out of the bus. As part of a settlement reached, sources stated that nearly a year after Daniels death; his estate received a multi million dollar payout from the owner and operator of New Smyrna Speedway.
