Kidnapped and Murdered
Minot, MN: (Oct-16-07) The family of Dru Sjodin brought a lawsuit against the state of Minnesota, after the teenaged student was kidnapped and killed by a convicted sex offender. Sources stated that the family was seeking close to a million dollars as compensation. The suit claimed that the state of Minnesota had released Alfonso Rodriguez Junior from prison just seven months before Sjodin disappeared. Though he was convicted several times, the state had allegedly opted against committing him as a sexual predator. As per records, Rodriguez was sentenced to death in 2006 for kidnapping and killing Dru Sjodin. In a settlement reached, the family received a $300,000 payout from the state to resolve the four-year long dispute.
