Murdered Infant
Dothan, AL: (Oct-17-07) A wrongful death lawsuit was filed against Hillsborough Kids, a non-profit agency, after 4-month-old Phoenix Jordan "Cody" Parrish was murdered. The suit claimed that the Florida child services agency that handles foster care and adoption for the state of Florida failed to adequately protect Cody. The story of Cody Parrish gripped the city of Dothan in December of 2004 after the infant was killed by his mother, Tierra Capri Gobble. She was arrested, along with Cody's father, Samuel David Hunter, and Cody's uncle, Edgar Parrish, who had been given custody of Cody and his sister by Hillsborough Kids.
As part of a settlement reached, the lawsuit was resolved with a $800,000 payout by the city. Currently, a Dothan attorney appointed to represent Cody's 4-year-old sister is asking a court to rule the sister is the rightful heir to a portion of an $800,000 settlement. Records show that because Cody's parents and uncle are in jail and no family to claim the body, Cody was given a funeral by Dothan residents. [DOTHAN EAGLE: INFANT DEATH]
