Restaurant Fall
Rockford, IL: (Oct-19-07) Judd Daniels, a Boone County man, brought a lawsuit against the Steam Plant Restaurant, a Belvidere eatery, after he sustained injuries falling on a wet floor. Daniels claimed that he now suffers from an affliction that makes his bones susceptible to fractures, because the restaurant was negligent in putting up a proper warning sign. Daniels broke his arm in several places and says he might require additional surgeries.
As part of a settlement reached, a jury of 12 ordered that Judd Daniels of Garden Prairie be awarded $1 million, and his wife an additional $75,000. The week long trial included more than 20 witnesses, including county and police officials who were at a Crime Stoppers meeting with Daniels at the time of his injury. Some witnesses went so far as to testify that they saw the floor being mopped, but the defense presented others that recalled no such thing. [ROCKFORD REGISTER STAR: RESTAURANT FALL]
