Housing Gender Harassment
Red Wing, MN: (Oct-23-07) The US Government brought a federal sexual harassment lawsuit against two Red Wing landlords, Thomas and Dawn Fischer, alleging they violated the Fair Housing Act. The suit filed against them accused Thomas and Dawn Fischer of harassing female tenants at rental properties they managed. The suit stated that Thomas made unwanted verbal sexual advances, unwanted sexual touching, and entered the apartments of female tenants without permission or notice.
As part of a settlement reached, which is pending in the US District Court for the District of Minnesota, the court ordered the Fischers to pay $210,000 to six former tenants and $30,000 in a civil penalty to the United States. Further, the deal prohibits the Fischers from engaging in future discrimination and requires them to retain an independent manager to manage their rental properties.
