Unlimited Internet
Albany, NY: (Oct-23-07) New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo brought a lawsuit against Verizon Wireless, alleging that the cellular giant engaged in deceptive marketing practices for its unlimited Internet service. In the suit, the company was accused of marketing its wireless Internet plan as unlimited, but then terminated accounts for excessive use. Cuomo's office stated that restrictions on the plans were not clearly and conspicuously disclosed to consumers.
As part of a settlement agreement reached by the parties, Verizon Wireless agreed to pay $150,000 in penalties and costs to New York State. Further, the company will also revise the marketing of its wireless Internet access plan and pay an estimated $1 million in reimbursements to customers. Company spokespersons stated that they were committed to providing clear advertising for their products and services, and had begun updating advertising for their NationalAccess and BroadbandAccess data plans earlier in 2007.
