Processor Copyright
This is a settlement for the Trademark, Copyright, Patent lawsuit.
Santa Clara, CA: (Oct-24-07) Transmeta brought a lawsuit against Intel Corp., alleging that the chip maker infringed on its copyright. The copyright dispute was over patents that improved processor technology and were used in Intel's Pentium III, Pentium 4, Pentium M, Core and Core 2 products. Transmeta filed suit in October 2006 in federal court in Delaware, claiming that Intel had received more than $100 billion in revenue from its products. The suit sought a share in royalties for Transmeta.
As part of a settlement reached, the processor technology maker settled with its gigantic competitor for $250 million, giving the investors who backed it, a generous reward. Sources stated that shares of Transmeta nearly tripled, closing up 233%. In addition to the payout, Transmeta will also be entitled to receive annual, but not exclusive, licensing fees of $20 million for the next five years. The chip maker turned intellectual-property developer will also drop other patent claims against Intel, which in turn will abandon its litigation efforts. [SMART MONEY: PROCESSOR CAPYRIGHT]
