Gas Pipeline Management
New York, NY: (Oct-25-07) The US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) brought charges against BP PLC, and a subsidiary of Anadarko Petroleum Corp. (APC), alleging that the two companies violated norms in the companies' management of interstate natural gas pipelines.
As part of a settlement reached, UK oil giant BP agreed to pay a civil penalty of $7 million to resolve multiple violations of federal regulations. Under the deal, the company also has agreed to implement a compliance monitoring program to avoid repeating the violations. The recent settlement follows close after an earlier settlement where the oil giant will pay a total of $373 million in fines related to a deadly 2005 explosion at its refinery in Texas City; oil spills from pipelines at Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, in 2006; and accusations that the company's traders manipulated propane prices in 2004. Anadarko subsidiary MGTC Inc. will pay a civil penalty of $300,000 to resolve violations. [CNN NEWS: PIPELINE MANAGEMENT]
