Seattle Priest Abuse
Seattle, WA: (Oct-25-07) Two Washington men, who were initialed M.P. and J.P. for the sake of confidentiality, brought charges against the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle, alleging that they were abused by the church's clergy when they were minors. M.P. alleged that he was abused by the Rev. Edward Boyle starting in 1956 when he was 14. The suit claimed that M.P. was an altar boy at Immaculate Conception Church in Everett, where Boyle was assigned. More abuse took place after the priest was transferred to Immaculate Conception Church in Arlington. J.P. attested that he was abused several times by the Rev. James Knellekan starting around 1954 when J.P. was 13, as he attended Catholic Youth Organization activities at St. Catherine of Siena Church in Seattle where Knellekan was assigned.
Records show that both the priests are now deceased. As part of a settlement reached, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Seattle agreed to pay M.P. $270,000 and J.P $110,000, resolving the allegations. [SEATTLE TIMES: PRIEST ABUSE]
