Compliance Laws

New Orleans, LA: (Oct-29-07) The Attorney General of the State of Louisiana brought charges against iMergent, Inc., a provider of eCommerce software for small businesses and entrepreneurs, alleging that the company violated certain voluntary compliance laws. As part of a settlement reached, the company agreed to make certain refunds and a payment to the Louisiana Department of Justice Consumer Enforcement and Education Fund. Sources stated that the total amount to be paid by the company is $75,000. The settlement resolves outstanding matters with the State of Louisiana and, as a result, does not require the company to register as a business opportunity nor does it restrict the company from doing business in Louisiana. The company did not admit any guilt in agreeing to settle, but did so to avoid the risks and costs of protracted litigation. [BAYOU BUZZ: COMPLIANCE LAWS]
