Employees Racial Harassment
Palo Alto, CA: (Oct-30-07) The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) brought a lawsuit against Hammon Plating, a Palo Alto company, alleging that it ignored harassment complaints involving employees' gender and national origin. The suit, filed on behalf of multiple employees, claimed that Hammon Plating, an electroplating services company, ignored behavior that subjected their employees, both men and women to harassment by co-workers and supervisors. The unlawful conduct consisted of, among other things, vulgar sexual comments, physical touching, and derogatory comments about their Mexican ancestry.
The company, which provides services to semiconductor manufacturers, agreed to pay $115,000 to resolve allegations. Hammon Plating denied the allegations, but agreed to settle so as to avoid the risks and costs of litigation. [PALO ALTO ONLINE: RACIAL DISCRIMINATION]
