Storm Water Waste
Emeryville, CA: (Oct-31-07) The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) brought charges against Coulter Forge Technologies, an Emeryville forging and metal processing site, alleging that the company failed to comply with storm water permits. The suit was filed after an EPA investigation at the Coulter Forge Technologies' Emeryville location, which revealed that the facility had oily substances, product wastes, and other pollutants that covered the storm drains. During the inspection, the EPA also found containers of hazardous materials and waste products stored outside. Coulter Forge had also failed to update its pollution prevention plan, as mandated by the EPA.
Concern over waste runoff entering storm drains and making its way into Bay Area waterways lead the EPA to make a December 2006 order for Coulter Forge to comply with storm water and waste disposal regulations. As part of a settlement reached, sources confirmed that the company agreed to pay $36,000 to resolve allegations. [CBS NEWS: STORM WATER WASTE]
