Ovarian Cyst
Jay, IN: (Oct-31-07) Marc Cooper brought charges against the county and Dr. Kerri Williams, a Grove hospital and emergency room physician, alleging that negligence on their part caused the death of his wife Candace Cooper. The wrongful death lawsuit stated that 35-year-old Candace Cooper was carried into the emergency room on May 18, 2005, showing signs of stomach pain, vomiting and nausea. Fourteen minutes later a lab blood report was returned, with Candace Cooper exhibiting a total of 18 signs of internal bleeding. However, emergency room physician, Williams, released the patient. The suit claimed that she had been given IV fluids, medication for nausea, been diagnosed with stomach flu, and given instructions to call her regular doctor in a couple of days.
Though Marc Cooper demanded that his wife be admitted for further monitoring, his request was ignored. Candace Cooper was taken out of Integris Grove General Hospital in a wheelchair and bled to death the next day as a result of an ovarian cyst that had burst. As part of a settlement reached, a Delaware County jury awarded Marc Cooper $2 million, ending the lawsuit. [PRYOR DAILY TIMES: OVARIAN CYST]
