Sports Agent

Los Angeles, CA: (Nov-03-07) The University of Southern California brought charges against Robert Troy Caron, a sports agent, in Los Angeles Superior Court, alleging that he caused three of its football players to be declared ineligible because of their dealings with him. The suit, filed after an investigation, revealed that Caron, a personal injury lawyer who is not registered as a sports agent in California, had hired a young man to befriend and move in with the athletes as their roommate. Sources stated that he paid for meals and gave them pagers and telephone calling cards. The investigation, conducted by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) claimed that the association's rules prohibit athletes from accepting payments from sports agents.

The lawsuit accused Caron of inducing the athletes to breach their contract with the university. They had received the opportunity as a scholarship agreement in which they promised to obey NCAA rules. They breached contract by accepting impermissible cash and other benefits. As part of a settlement reached, Caron agreed to pay the University of Southern California $50,000 and avoid further contact with its athletes. [CONQUEST CHRONICLES: AGENT BRIBES]
