Recycling Pollution
Jefferson Township, OH: (Nov-07-07) The federal government joined a neighbors' lawsuit against Perma-Fix Environmental Services Inc., a local recycling and processing plant, alleging that the company violated the federal Clean Air Act. In its defense, the company stated that it does not have enough air pollutants to require a special permit that would hold it to Clean Air Act standards. As part of a settlement reached, the company agreed to resolve allegations by paying $1,325,000. The company's insurance carrier agreed to pay $500,000, leaving the remaining $825,000 to be paid by Perma-Fix.
