CD Price Fixing
Detroit, MI: (Nov-09-07) The Michigan State Attorney General's office, 43 states, and US territories brought charges against Sony, Time Warner, and Virgin Group alleging that music retailers and distributors engaged in a CD price-fixing scam. The State Attorney General's office stated that the offense is a violation of federal and state law.
As part of a settlement reached, the companies agreed in total to pay $67.4 million to consumers. A recent development shows that five Michigan music organizations received about $165,000 as part of a settlement of the CD price-fixing scam. Officials stated that the Detroit Symphony Orchestra received $66,111 and the Grand Rapids Symphony was awarded $49,583. The Traverse Symphony Orchestra, Northwestern Michigan College Fund children's choir and Pine Mountain Music Festival each received $16,527 as part of the agreement.
