Alter Boy Abuse
Scranton, PA: (Nov-09-07) A lawsuit was brought against the Diocese of Scranton, by a victim who claimed that he was sexually abused by former Roman Catholic priest Albert Liberatore Jr. between 1999 to 2002. The suit stated that the abuse took place when the victim was a teenage altar boy at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church in Duryea. Records stated that Liberatore, now 42, pleaded guilty in 2005 in Luzerne County and New York to sexually abusing the victim. He was given 10 years probation and defrocked. As part of a settlement reached with the victim, the Diocese of Scranton has agreed to pay $3 million to settle claims. The settlement was approved by US District Judge Richard Caputo.
