Waco, TX: (Nov-21-07) Charlcie Woodruff, the former McLennan County Jail nursing supervisor, brought charges against McLennan County, alleging that she was fired for reporting neglectful medical care for inmates. In her law suit, she claimed that inadequate health care staffing at the jail, improper dispensing and disposing of drugs, missing narcotics and failure by jail staff to follow doctor's orders have produced illegal and dangerous conditions. She alleged that she was suspended and then fired for reporting the conditions.
In a settlement reached, McLennan County agreed to pay Charlcie Woodruff $30,000, in order to end the lawsuit. McLennan County did not agree to any wrongdoing and agreed to settle the case to avoid the litigation costs. Earlier, a federal judge in Waco dismissed two-thirds of Woodruff's allegations, leaving intact Woodruff's whistleblower claims. US District Judge Walter S. Smith Jr. dismissed the Nursing Act and civil rights claims included in the lawsuit. [WACO TRIBUNE: INMATE SAFETY]
