Tornado Insurance
Bismarck, ND: (Nov-28-07) The Northwood School District brought charges against the state insurance department, over a claim settlement for damage from an August tornado that ripped through the town. Sources close to the case stated that the North Dakota Insurance Department has issued a $4 million check to the Northwood School District in advance of the claim. School officials said earlier that an insurance claim offer was too low. Superintendent Kevin Coles said insurance representatives offered $6.4 million to repair the existing school, but officials want to build a new school. The department's Fire and Tornado Fund provides property insurance for buildings owned by state political subdivisions.
