Sewer Extension
Wallkill, PA: (Nov-29-07) Gordon LaForge, a New Jersey developer, brought a lawsuit against the town of Wallkill, claiming that his request for a sewer extension for a planned 202-unit townhouse development near the Orange County Golf Course was denied by the town in 2000. The suit was filed in federal court for $9 million, after LaForge's plans ended in foreclosure in 2001.
Sources stated that a settlement was reached in which the town agreed to pay $1.3 million to resolve the dispute. The two parties agreed to the settlement, though the town denies any wrongdoing. Town officials stated that the settlement was reached to avoid the costs and risks of litigation. Despite the battle with LaForge, sources stated that the property has been developed anyway. The town board approved a sewer hookup to the property for another developer in 2003 after a court order required it. In order to pay for the settlement; the town will have to issue bonds over five years since it is an unbudgeted expense. [RECORD ONLINE: SEWER PERMIT]
