Water Park Dispute

Monterey County, CA: (Nov-29-07) Dan Heath, owner of Water World Resorts, brought a lawsuit against Monterey County over the impact on his facilities by the legal challenges to the Salinas Valley Water Project at Lake Nacimiento in northern San Luis Obispo County and Lake San Antonio in south Monterey County. Sources revealed that Heath had leased lakeside land from the county for decades. Records show that the county spent $5.3 million in a protracted legal battle that raged between its legal team and Heath's lawyers. As part of a settlement reached, the county agreed to pay Dan Heath $22 million to resolve the dispute. The settlement was to purchase the lakeside resort facilities and escape the lease.
