Chicago, IL: (Dec-05-07) Joanna Kollintzas and her daughter Thespena, the wife and daughter of former East Chicago city councilman Frank Kollintzas, brought a lawsuit against the city and school district, claiming that they were wrongfully fired in 2005. The mother daughter duo, who were former employees of the School City of East Chicago, alleged that they were fired in political retaliation for their support of former mayor Robert Pastrick.
As part of a settlement reached, the school district agreed to pay the two women $325,000. East Chicago officials claimed that a major part of the settlement will fall mostly on the school district, and that the city will be responsible for about $100,000. Under the settlement, Joanna will receive $250,000 and Thespena will receive $75,000. This case was among several others brought against the city for wrongful firing of city employees.
