Discrimination costs Police Department $200,000

Clarksville, TN: (Dec-06-07) Clarksville Police Department Sgt. J.W. Hunt brought a lawsuit against the department and the city, alleging that he was discriminated against. Hunt's suit, filed in July 2006, claimed that he was passed over for promotions in favor of equally or lesser qualified white officers and was subjected to a racially hostile work environment. He stated that he was retaliated against following his testimony in other Clarksville Police Department discrimination suits. As part of a settlement reached, the city Finance and Administration Committee unanimously agreed to pay Hunt $200,000. As per the terms of the deal, Hunt would not leave the department. The parties stated that there were still a few unresolved peripheral issues that needed to be negotiated. [LEAF CHRONICLE: POLICE DISCRIMINATION]
