Racial Discrimination

Milwaukee, WI: (Dec-10-07) The US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) brought charges against Target Corp., on behalf of four management applicants, alleging that the company racially discriminated against them. The suit stated that the Minneapolis-based retailer violated the Civil Rights Act of 1964 by not hiring Kalisha White, Ralpheal Edgeston Brown, Cherise Brown Easley and James Daniels, Jr. as assistant store managers in 2000 and 2001 in its district including Milwaukee and Madison, and not keeping documents as required under the law. As part of a settlement reached, the company agreed to pay $510,000 to the four management applicants, resolving allegations. Additionally, Target agreed to revise its policies for retaining documents; to provide supervisors with training on employment discrimination and record-keeping; to report on its hiring decisions and to post a notice about the decree for employees in its stores and offices in the affected district.
