False Allegations
Wenatchee, WA: (Dec-26-07) Robert "Roby" Roberson, a former pastor at the East Wenatchee Pentecostal Church, brought a lawsuit against the city of Wenatchee alleging that he was wrongfully arrested for an alleged involvement in a sex ring at the church. Sources stated that Robertson was one of dozens of people arrested during an investigation into the sex ring charges. Robertson filed suit stating that the city violated his civil rights. The case was sparked by a claim made by a foster child in the home of Wenatchee police Detective Robert Perez, who said she and other children were sexually abused at the church. The 1994 investigations led to the arrests of at least 60 adults for investigation of child sexual abuse in Wenatchee and East Wenatchee.
As part of a settlement reached, city officials stated that the city agreed to pay Robertson $700,000 to resolve claims. The payout, made by the Association of Washington Cities Risk Management Services, ended more than 11 years of civil litigation between the city and Robertson.
