Tunnel Fares
Boston, MA: (Jan-02-08) Attorney General Martha Coakley's office brought charges against A&M Limousine Service, a Boston-based company, alleging that A&M used employees' personal Fast Lane transponders on company limousines to avoid paying commercial tolls. The suit stated that the company's practice allowed the East Boston-based service to pay a local resident discount rate of 40 cents for trips through the Sumner and Ted Williams tunnels, rather than the commercial toll of $4.50. The state accused the company of evading $32,000 in tunnel fares.
As part of a settlement reached, A&M Limousine Service agreed to pay $65,000 for its alleged failure to pay commercial turnpike tolls in Boston. The company denied any wrongdoing, but agreed to settle, avoiding the costs and risks associated with protracted litigation. [BOSTON GLOBE: TURNPIKE TOLLS]
