Principal's Leave
Canonsburg, PA: (Jan-05-08) Thomas Hajzus, Peters Township School District principal, brought a lawsuit against the district, alleging that he was discriminated against because he suffered from depression and anxiety. The suit claimed that Hajzus was removed as high school principal in 2002 and given a newly created post with the same annual pay, $92,000, and benefits. He stated that the move was ordered following a three-month leave he had taken to recover from anxiety and depression. As part of a settlement reached, the Peters Township School District agreed to pay Hajzus $130,000 over six years to resolve the dispute. Additionally, he was reinstated by Commonwealth Court and returned to work in November 2006.
