Plane Crash
Stafford County, VA: (Jan-04-08) Carole W. Green, the widow of one of the men killed in a February 2006 airplane crash in Stafford County, brought a wrongful death claim against the estate of Rick Potter. Potter was the real estate developer and pilot who owned the plane her husband, Graham Green III, was in Feb. 22, 2006, the night of his death. Records state that Potter, Green, Michael Guy Pappas and Albert "Buck" Jacoby all died in the crash, which followed a trip the four took to see a Wake Forest University basketball game.
As part of a settlement reached, Carole Green's $10 million wrongful death lawsuit ended in a $1 million payout. Officials claimed that the amount of the settlement was included in a motion filed by Carole Green's attorneys asking that one of the insurance companies, Cincinnati Insurance Cos., be assessed a penalty of $167 a day for six weeks for delaying the settlement. Amy Pappas, the wife of Michael Pappas, also filed a wrongful death suit against the estate, but court records do not show a settlement in that case. The family of Jacoby has apparently not filed a suit. [FREE LANCE STAR: PLANE CRASH]
