Ambulance Service
Kenansville, NC: (Jan-10-08) Johnston Ambulance Service, Inc. of Goldsboro (JAS) brought a lawsuit against Duplin County, alleging breach of contract. The lawsuit by JAS was a result of allegations made in April 2006 against former Duplin County EMS director Curtis Brock and former employee Barbara Coman, regarding improper involvement of Duplin County EMS contracts. Sources stated that JAS officials originally filed the lawsuit, stating that some county employees illegally breached JAS' computer database.
As part of a settlement reached, Duplin County will continue to adhere to the terms of any franchise ordinances in effect. The county agreed that it will not enter into the business of providing non-emergency ambulance transportation except for backup services already authorized for a period of time. The deal also saw the county pay the ambulance services company $25,000, resolving all pending litigation. [SAMPSON INDEPENDENT: AMBULANCE CONTRACT]
