Cheer Leading Squad
This is a settlement for the Discrimination lawsuit.
Glendale, KY: (Jan-14-08) Melissa Barner, the mother of 13-year-old Bobby Thorn, brought a discrimination lawsuit against East Hardin Middle School in Glendale, KY, alleging that her son was deliberately ousted from the school's cheer leading team. Sources stated that Thorn wanted to be the only boy on his school's cheer leading squad, but that he was not allowed to join. Following the controversial decision to cut him from the team, the school faced a lawsuit that Barner filed with the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights. Her suit alleged that there were sworn testimonies from other parents stating the coach admitted cutting Bobby because she didn't want a boy on her team.
A settlement had been reached, resolving the controversial lawsuit that attracted much media attention. As part of the deal, the school admits no wrongdoing but the commission has ordered mandatory training for the principal, teachers and coaches at the school. In addition, school administrators must submit an annual report to the commission for the next three years and include any additional complaints. The school also agreed to pay $3,000 to Bobby's mother. [FOX NEWS: CHEER LEADING DISCRIMINATION]
