Coolant Contamination

Fayetteville, NC: (Jan-14-08) The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) brought charges against the city of Lumberton, Carolina Transformers group, a company that operated from 1958 to 1986, alleging that it and other entities that contracted with it, incorrectly disposed off polychlorinated biphenyls, coolants used to insulate fluids for transformers and capacitors. Sources close to the case stated that the city council recently agreed to pay a $90,000 settlement as its part in a lawsuit filed by the Environmental Protection Agency. The money is said to be part of a $9.9 million settlement against Carolina Transformer Superfund Site and other entities responsible for the environmental violations.
