Collapsed Bridge

Lisbon, OH: (Jan-24-08) William Huffman, a Salem man, brought a lawsuit against the county, after a bridge was washed out by a flash flood. The suit stated that Huffman was severely injured when his car struck a collapsed bridge near his home about 6:30 a.m. Aug. 28, 2004. The bridge had washed out in the night during one of the worst flash floods in recorded county history. Huffman stated that the county was negligent for failing to erect barricades to protect motorists from driving onto the collapsed bridge. Sources close to the case stated that though a pretrial hearing was scheduled in Columbiana County Common Pleas Court, the lawsuit reached settlement. A decision will become final once a formal entry announcing the settlement has been drafted by the attorneys involved and submitted to the court for Judge David Tobin to sign. Terms of the settlement agreement are being kept confidential. [MORNING JOURNAL NEWS: COLLAPSED BRIDGE]
