Treasurer Embezzlement
Warren Township, IL: (Feb-21-08) The Warren Cheer and Pom Program, a Warren Township cheerleading group, brought charges against Mary Lou Puccio, an ex-treasurer, alleging that she embezzled slightly less than $30,000 during her employment. Sources close to the case stated that as part of a settlement reached, Puccio promised to repay the money, asking in exchange, for the group to not pursue a lawsuit against her for any additional amount. Records show that Puccio, 47, Warren Township, pleaded guilty in November to felony theft and admitted stealing the money between 2004 and 2006. She was placed on probation for 30 months and ordered to write a letter of apology for what she had done to the group. Under the terms of the settlement agreement, the Warren Township cheerleading group will get back nearly $26,000 that was stolen by their ex-treasurer, resolving the lawsuit.
