Apartment Windows
New Haven, MA: (Feb-23-08) The US Environmental Protection Agency brought charges against three housing corporations in New Haven, alleging that 20 apartments had lead paint violations. The housing corporations are Edgewood Village Inc., F.O.H. Inc., and Yedidei Hagan Inc. The suit stated that Karissa Van Tassel set off the federal inquiry in September 2004 after her toddler son and infant daughter were found to have elevated blood lead levels. Sources close to the case revealed that EPA regulations require landlords to inform all tenants in housing built before 1978 of dangers associated with lead based paint. As part of a settlement reached, the three housing corporations agreed to pay $182,000 to resolve allegations. EPA sources said that the corporations will pay a $20,000 fine and replace 214 old windows in city apartments and will remove other lead based paint hazards.
