Sewage Permit
Akron, OH: (Feb-25-08) The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency brought charges against Copley CVS Inc., a Copley Township drug store, alleging that the business had violations of the federal Clean Water Act. The suit was filed after the agency conducted investigations revealing that from 2000 to 2005, the store was permitted to operate an on site, semi public waste water treatment system and to discharge treated effluent to a storm sewer that drained to Pigeon Creek, a Tuscarawas River tributary. Officials claimed that the permit expired on Jun. 30, 2005, but agency inspectors found that the store discharged raw or partially treated sewage on three days in 2006 and 2007. Additionally, the store was accused of failing to submit monthly operating reports and failed to renew its permit.
Company spokespersons revealed that the parties had reached a settlement, resolving all litigation. Under the terms of the agreement, the Copley Township drug store will pay a $38,950 settlement for discharging raw and partially treated sewage from the store at 1410 S. Cleveland-Massillon Road into Pigeon Creek and for making such discharges without a state-required permit. [AKRON BEACON JOURNAL: SEWAGE PERMIT]
