Consumer Funding
Baltimore, MD: (Feb-25-08) The US Federal Trade Commission brought charges against BlueHippo Funding, LLC, alleging that the company substantially modified its computer sales program after February 2006 to include, among other things, a new store credit customer refund program. The suit stated that the company, one of the country's largest direct response merchandise lenders, worked with the commission over a period of months to address the concerns of BlueHippo customers who signed up for the program under the previous business model. The company is said to have helped thousands of Americans with limited financing options purchase computers, flat screen televisions, and other electronic equipment.
A public announcement stated that the parties had reached a settlement, resolving the dispute. Under the terms of the settlement agreement, BlueHippo Funding spokespersons stated that the company will fund a consumer restitution pool of up to $5 million dollars for customers who purchased computers prior to February 2006.
