Superfund Cleanup

Woburn, MA: (Feb-27-08) The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US Justice Department brought charges against Pharmacia and Bayer CropScience over cleanup of a Superfund site in Woburn. The federal government said that heavy metals and other contaminants were left over from more than a century of chemical and glue-making operations that ended in 1969. The recent dispute was over disagreements that arose over the second phase of cleanup at the Industri-Plex site. Federal officials claimed that the parties had reached a settlement, in which, both Pharmacia and Bayer CropScience, agreed to resolves disagreements over the second phase of cleanup at the Industri-Plex site. Experts stated that the cleanup costs are estimated to be nearly $26 million for the second phase, which will be borne by the two companies. [BOSTON HERALD: SUPERFUND CLEANUP]
