Wrong Bus
Greenbrier County, WV: (Feb-27-08) Brandy Ratliff of Ronceverte, brought a lawsuit against the Greenbrier County Board of Education, on behalf of her daughter, alleging that the 5-year-old was placed on the wrong school bus. The suit claimed that Ronceverte Elementary School officials assured her daughter would be placed on a bus that would take her to the residence of a caregiver. The suit said Ratliff contacted school officials on Oct. 6, 2005, informing them her daughter needed to be placed on a different school bus because she would not be at home to receive her child. Records show that as a result of the mix-up, the girl, Kensley Shannon, was dropped off in front of her home instead and then wandered about a mile into Ronceverte. She was allegedly found with a nosebleed associated with a medical condition. Her mother stated that the child is diabetic and was found wandering the streets of Ronceverte bleeding and extremely frightened.
As part of a settlement reached, the Greenbrier County Board of Education agreed to resolve the lawsuit with a $15,000 settlement agreement. School board officials said the lawsuit was negotiated through the West Virginia Board of Risk and Insurance Management. [REGISTER HERALD: SCHOOL NEGLIGENCE]
