Speedway Fatality
Daytona Beach, FL: (Mar-05-08) The family of Roy H. Weaver III, a track-crew supervisor, who was killed during a race at Daytona International Speedway, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against International Speedway Corp., the race track's corporate parent. Records show that Roy Weaver, of Ormond Beach, was killed in February 2004 while clearing debris from the track during a race. He was struck by Ray Paprota, a paraplegic race-car driver who was competing in the IPower Dash 150.
In 2005, his widow Linda and their three children competed in the CBS reality show, The Amazing Race, which features the contestants traveling around the world to complete tasks at different locations to win the $1 million prize. The Weavers placed third in the competition.
Sources said that a settlement had been reached in the lawsuit, in which International Speedway Corp. signed a confidential agreement with Weaver's estate. [ORLANDO SENTINAL: 'AMAZING RACE' FAMILY WINS DAYTONA SPEEDWAY LAWSUIT]
