Religious Discrimination
Las Cruces, NM: (Mar-06-08) Hal Mumme, NMSU head football coach, and New Mexico State University settled an alleged religious discrimination lawsuit in June 2007 with four former players; Mu'Ammar Ali, Jacob Wallace, and brothers Anthony and Vincent Thompson. The players claimed they were the victims of discrimination because of their Muslim religion. Records show that the university agreed to resolve the religious discrimination allegations by settling for a previously undisclosed amount.
As per a clause in the settlement agreement, that amount was recently revealed and Court sources confirmed that the university will pay a total of $165,000 to Ali, Wallace, and the Thompson brothers. The document further said that the university admits neither discrimination nor wrongdoing in the case, but settled to avoid the risks and costs associated with prolonged litigation.
