Irving City, TX: (Mar-12-08) The city of Irving has been locked in a legal battle with the owners of Spanish Trace Apartments, who brought a lawsuit against the city in 2007, following an order by the Building and Standards Commission to vacate the property. According to spokespersons of Spanish Trace, this stems from the city making a highly publicized push to bring aging apartments up to code.
Sources stated that as part of a settlement reached between the parties, the city agreed to waive $24,000 in civil penalties against the owner and will release a lien filed on the property. Additionally, the owners of Spanish Trace Apartments will spend more than $1 million to renovate the property. Owners of some other properties have also filed lawsuits that are still pending in courts. [DALLAS NEWS: IRVING MAY SETTLE SUIT FILED BY APARTMENT OWNERS]
