Nuclear Power

San Louis Obispo, CA: (Mar-13-08) The Coastal Law Enforcement Action Network brought charges against the California Coastal Commission in 2007, following the state agency's issuing of a permit that allowed Pacific Gas and Electric Co. to go ahead with its steam generator replacement project at the Diablo Canyon nuclear power plant. The lawsuit, brought by the environmentalists, challenged the authorization, alleging that the project was in violation of various environmental laws.

Sources stated that the parties had reached a settlement agreement, in which the gas company agreed to a variety of programs including developing an osprey and bald eagle nesting program at Montana de Oro State Park. Though the settlement has been made final, Emily Christensen, spokeswoman for Pacific Gas and Electric, stated that the finer details of the deal were being kept confidential.
