Disparaging Caricature
Creston, IA: (Mar-26-08) Creston Realtor Lois Monday, doing business as Monday Realty, brought a lawsuit against former Realtor Ruth Bolinger, doing business as The Real Estate Store, in Union County District Court in January 2007. The suit alleged that an advertisement placed by Bolinger in The Exchange of Winterset, included a caricature resembling Monday, and was accompanied by disparaging remarks. Monday requested a jury trial, which had been set to begin Apr. 28, 08.
Sources stated that the two parties agreed to resolve the defamation charges out-of-court, and reached a settlement, ending all pending litigation. As part of the settlement agreement, Bolinger agreed to pay a cash settlement to Monday, though both sides refused to disclose the amount. The cash payout resolves over a year's worth of court hearings and depositions. [CRESTON ONLINE: SETTLEMENT REACHED IN REALTOR TIFF]
