Alderman Accused
Davenport, IA: (Mar-31-08) Cynthia Webb, a Davenport city employee, brought a lawsuit against the city, alleging that former Alderman Ron Van Fossen made sexually explicit comments and touched her in an over-friendly manner. The suit was filed in February 2007, which named both the city and Van Fossen as defendants.
Sources report that the two sides have reached a settlement agreement, in which the city of Davenport will pay $92,000 to resolve the sexual harassment allegations. Under the terms of settlement, Cynthia Webb will retain her job with the city. Van Fossen denied the allegations, and stated that the settlement was not an admission of liability. City officials said that in addition to the payout, Webb will attend mediation sessions with some of her colleagues. [WQAD NEWS: DAVENPORT SETTLES IN SEXUAL HARASSMENT SUIT]
