Paint Overspray Pollutes
Reinbeck, IA: (Mar-31-08) The State Attorney General Bob Brammer's office brought a lawsuit against the Garrett Corporation which operates Delta Sports in Reinbeck, alleging that there were air pollution law violations at the company's facility. Brammer stated that the company makes targets for hunters and law enforcement. The suit claimed that the company had several air pollution violations when painting those targets in 2006 and 2007. The AG's office stated that the suit was transferred to them, after the Environmental Protection Commission issued several administrative orders and enforcement actions. The allegations against the company included that the company built new paint booths without obtaining the required construction permits.
As part of a settlement reached in the case, the northeast Iowa company has agreed to a $45,000 civil penalty for pollution control violations and will also agree to commit no future violations. Following the deal, the Attorney Generals office said that the company has been inspected and found to be in compliance. [RADIO IOWA: RIENBECK COMPANY AGREES TO PAY ENVIRONMENTAL PENALTY]
