Helicopter Crash
Omaha, NE: (Apr-01-08) Three families brought a wrongful death lawsuit against American Eurocopter, Eurocopter S.A., Duncan Aviation of Lincoln, CIT Leasing Corporation, Societe D' Applications Des Machines Motrices, and Dunlop Limited, over the 2002 crash of a medical helicopter in Norfolk. The suit stated that 41-year-old Lori Schrempp, an emergency room nurse from Yankton, South Dakota; 43-year-old pilot, Phil Herring of Lincoln, Nebraska; and 40-year-old paramedic, Patrick Scollard of Sioux City, IA, were killed as a result of the crash.
The suit was resolved after the two sides entered into a settlement agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, the six defendants will pay the families of the deceased $18.4 million, resolving the wrongful death claims. Sources close to the plaintiffs say that they are delighted with the settlement. State officials claim that the payout is the largest ever for wrongful death in NE history. Legal counsel said that the helicopter's maker Eurocopter agreed to pay a significant chunk of the settlement, but they declined to provide a breakdown.
